VINEYARDS

Our wines are made in the best position – Zelina Prigorje is located on the 45th parallel, as well as many of the most respected wine-growing regions in the world – Piedmont, Val du Rhone, Bordeaux, Oregon, and others, so it is no wonder that local wines are so richly aromatic.

The vineyards of the Litterarii winery are located on the southern slopes of Medvednica at altitudes of 190 to 220 meters, with plenty of sun ensured by their perfect position. The vineyards were planted in 1989 with varieties of exceptional potential dominated by Chardonnay, Grüner Silvaner, Rhein Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The exposition and position of the vineyards, with the superior maturity of the plantations and ideal climatic conditions, make this terroir unique on the wine map of continental Croatia.

ASSORTMENTS

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a cosmopolitan that originates from northeastern France, formed by a spontaneous crossing of Pinot (most likely noir) and the lesser-known variety, Gauois Blanc. It has recently been established that Gauois Blanc is a variety of Croatian origin, Belina starohrvatska. It is widespread throughout the world, especially in France and California.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most famous varieties and brands in the world. This is evidenced by the French saying that wines of this variety are called “the wine of kings”. The name Sauvignon, on the other hand, comes from the French word sauvage, wild, which is associated with the origin or appeal of its wines.

Rhein Riesling

The Rhein Riesling is one of the most famous, but also oldest, varieties in the world – it was first mentioned back in 1435. The Benedictines from the Johannisberg monastery in Rheingau, where intensive cultivation began during the 18th century, are responsible for its importance and spread throughout Germany and the world.

Grüner Silvaner

Grüner Silvaner is a variety that originates from Austria, although it has experienced the greatest expansion and popularity in Germany. Today, its origin is also known, so we know that Gewurztraminer and a local Austrian variety, Österreichisch-Weiß, are its parents. According to historical notaries, Abbot Alberich Degen brought it to the monastery of Ebrach in 1665.

Pinot noir

Pinot Noir is a variety that originates from France and is the original of the famous group of varieties (lat. Conculta) of Pinot. Namely, Pinot Gris and Blanc were created by mutating the DNA from Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir variety has been known since ancient times, so during the 13th century we find many historical records of the cultivation of Pinot Noir in France.
